Bull Ring
The landmark redevelopment of the Birmingham Bull Ring is now complete, including the new indoor market hall designed by Benoy Architects and Quarterbridge. We were consultants to the developers,Hammerson/Birmingham Alliance for the layout and specification of the new market hall. Quarterbridge organised the relocation of 100+ tenants for the critical enabling contract allowing the main scheme to proceed. Traders were relocated with continuity of trade and user types were deliberately mixed to reflect the historic diversity of this bustling city centre market. The anchor is a forty unit fresh food hall with a multi-storey carpark above. Following completion of the indoor market, the local branch of the National Market Traders Federation appointed Quarterbridge to negotiate the redevelopment of the adjacent Open Market with Birmingham City Council. We produced conceptual designs for a new layout, stalls and a tensile roof which were adapted to create new covered aisles and stallage with undercover storage and full weather protection. The open market has always been a focal point for the city centre and its new buildings now stand proudly alongside the redeveloped Bullring.
