The Market square and Market hall have always been central attractions in the historic town of Chesterfield.
In 2002 the Council decided to review their operation and identify linkages to support their emerging tourism development strategy. Quarterbridge suggested adjustments to the open market layout to improve visitor footfall and occupancy, and ways to improve usage of the upper floor of the Market hall. In common with many similar buildings the historic Market hall is listed and has high maintenance costs, so offsetting outgoings to the markets account was a priority. A business planning framework with performance indices was also devised to measure ongoing improvements to the markets service.
